The inspiration behind my project is through my own personal experience in college with finding security and confidence as an independent woman. There are many internal and external pressures to find love or to be in a relationship: loneliness, validation, societal standards, or in my case specifically, being surrounded by couples. In a season of singleness, it is easy to doubt yourself and to question your worth. When will it be my turn? Am I doing something wrong? The truth is, your life is way more valuable than seeking validation from someone else. My journey to finding peace with my independence has proved how much happier I am when I embrace my present life rather than actively seeking a life with someone else.
Through the good and bad, music has been an emotional outlet for me. It has helped me feel heard and understood. I saw this as an opportunity to put myself in the shoes of the women that make up my “heartbreak playlists” by recreating their album covers. A lot of these songs are sad and what you would title as a breakup song, but I decided to grab lyrics that reflect the message of my project and are more uplifting or inspiring.
I think a great deal of people can relate to my situation in one way or another. Especially within the past few years, our society has had to rely on our relationships with our loved ones to keep our sanity. Relationships and heartbreak can be a cliché topic, but I think it is important to shed light on the importance of finding yourself within the beauty of being single.
