Artist Statement

Wounds and trauma are something that unfortunately everyone must go through. These times in our life can be excruciatingly painful and seem like the hurt you feel will never go away. While we will spend most of our life going through the cycle of healing, there are ways to recognize your patterns of grief and heal your wounds more efficiently in the future.

My college experience has not left me shy of wounds. From losing my dog, my grandpa, waking up on the first day of classes to my house on fire, to most recently losing a life-long friend to a drunk driver. The pain of losing someone or something close to you truly cannot be described with only words. I am creating my individual work in an unfortunate and unplanned state of dealing with my own current grief after the loss of Hannah Goman, in who this piece is dedicated to.

My exhibition stages will showcase the process of going through these different phases of grief. From the shock of an event, denial, bargaining, anger, depression, and finally acceptance, I show my story of processing my most recent wound in hopes that other people will be able to relate and cope with their own traumas from looking at work.
