About the Project

OUR MISSION

Students work as a specialized group comprised of CME, Art/Design, and Business/Communication students who work closely with a CME faculty member to complete projects on time and within budget. The goal of this project is to bring students from different departments together to gain real-world experience to represent CME in our university.

These projects were created to incorporate multiple facets of industry by combining students pursuing different Bachelor’s degrees such as Composite Material Engineering, I-Design, and Marketing.

WHY

To enhance our campus with student-made features and bring awareness to the Composite Engineering major by immersing a team of students in a real-world collaboration project.

WHAT

We achieve this goal by developing a process that students follow and test in order to create usable products that will serve various functions around our campus.

HOW

Students who take part in this process will interview the predetermined clients, design furniture prototypes, and build the furniture using different materials and manufacturing methods.

Create for the Real World

Fall Semester – 2021

The intent of this project was to create a framework that pulls together students from multiple disciplines to work on projects together under mentorship/guidance that would be similar to real-world employment. Composite furniture building provides additional technical training, meets a need on the WSU campus, and promotes the program by making physical objects that act as passive marketing.

Students had the opportunity to work with different chemicals and manufacturing processes they had no previous experience with. Resins, Fiber Glass, Carbon Weave, and many more materials were utilized in the final build of their projects.
