Jennifer Gradecki & Derek Curry, “Infodemic”

This artist talk will focus on Infodemic, a neural network-generated video that addresses how coronavirus misinformation is amplified by social media. The talk will discuss the socio-technical background for the project as well as the experimental use of a conditional generative adversarial network (cGAN) in the creation of the video.

Amay Kataria, “A Symbiotic Passage”

We are living in an age where industrial technology is extending the frontiers of human knowledge and comfort. This has led to an intimate relationship between human consciousness and machine intelligence. According to Lynn Margulis, the physical association between individuals of different species for significant portions of their lifetime constitutes a ‘symbiosis’. This view, which was originally proposed as the grounds for cellular evolution by Margulis will be applied to look at the process of developing The Lost Passage – an interactive net-art project that resurrects an extinct species called passenger pigeon using cutting-edge digital technologies.

Stephanie Tripp, “Home, Unstaged”

Home, Unstaged explores the multi-layered processes of grief and commemoration experienced while emptying and vacating one’s childhood home. The artist’s talk centers on the possibilities of salvage and documentation against inevitable loss and the passage of time. It examines the choice of presenting the work within a 360 virtual space and how such an intimately enclosed viewing environment may evoke, deter, or even undermine a sense of longing for, or belonging in, one’s home.
