{"id":1365,"date":"2019-11-19T18:26:37","date_gmt":"2019-11-20T00:26:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/educate.winona.edu\/winona360\/?p=1365"},"modified":"2019-11-19T18:26:37","modified_gmt":"2019-11-20T00:26:37","slug":"winona-gets-funky-at-the-levee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/educate.winona.edu\/winona360\/blog\/2019\/11\/19\/winona-gets-funky-at-the-levee\/","title":{"rendered":"Winona gets funky at the Levee"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Rhythm @the River was attneded by people of Winona and the surrounding area on Sunday, Sept. 15, at Levee park.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The event included dance lessons, live music, craft beer, and food trucks.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Organizers spent between $12,000 and $15,000 to organize the event.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Lee Gundersheimer, arts and culture coordinator at WINONArts said many sponsors believe in WINONArts and helped pay for the event, in addition to fundraising.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Rhythm @ the River is an expanded 2018 version of \u201cSwinging in the Streets.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Organizers said the event was moved to Levee Park and made it bigger because last year 400 people participated on Third Street.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1360\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1360\" style=\"width: 263px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/educate.winona.edu\/winona360\/photo3dodge\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1360\" src=\"https:\/\/educate.winona.edu\/winona360\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/11\/Photo3Dodge-263x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"263\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/educate.winona.edu\/winona360\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/11\/Photo3Dodge-263x300.jpg 263w, https:\/\/educate.winona.edu\/winona360\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/11\/Photo3Dodge-768x877.jpg 768w, https:\/\/educate.winona.edu\/winona360\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/11\/Photo3Dodge-897x1024.jpg 897w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 263px) 100vw, 263px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1360\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Molly Breitlow (left) helps a couple with their salsa turns. Breitlow and her husband taught both of the lessons at Rhythm @ the River.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Rhythm @ the River was created as a part of a series of events that WINONArts puts on according to Gunersheimer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThe event is part of the Dance Plein Air events in WINONArts, the City\u2019s initiative to bring as many folks together with the arts and through as many different art forms as possible, dance being one of them,\u201d Gunersheimer said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Winona State Students Emma and Scout were on their way to study at Blue Heron and decided to see what was going on.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The two got snow cones at one of the food trucks and sat down in the grassy area of the park to enjoy the music.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI really like the Spanish music,\u201d Emma said. \u201cI think we definitely would come to this again.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1359\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1359\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/educate.winona.edu\/winona360\/photo2dodge\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1359\" src=\"https:\/\/educate.winona.edu\/winona360\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/11\/Photo2Dodge-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" srcset=\"https:\/\/educate.winona.edu\/winona360\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/11\/Photo2Dodge-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/educate.winona.edu\/winona360\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/11\/Photo2Dodge-768x511.jpg 768w, https:\/\/educate.winona.edu\/winona360\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/11\/Photo2Dodge-1024x681.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1359\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Golpe Tierra was the first band to perform during the night.
