Step Fatigue Test
To test the lifespan of the steps a modified 3-point bend fatigue test was used. The test used an individual step placed on the fixturing.
The part was loaded to 300 lbs., then cycled between 25 lbs. and 300 lbs. 1200 times.
3-Point Bend Strength Test (Dry & Wet)
Static Load Proof Testing – Dry
To test strength adequacy the middle step of a fully assembled test unit was loaded to 300 lbs. The test fixturing can be seen to the left and held the ladder in an operational position, simulating how a person would use the ladder.
Static Load Proof Testing – Wet
Another design concern was the weatherability of the ladder, or how the ladder would perform after being exposed to weather – i.e.. Water. To test the weatherability the test unit was submerged in water for 24 hours then tested again to 300 lbs. in the same manner as above.
