Design Concerns

• The function of the sidecar is to transport and carry various forms of cargo. The cargo can be materials, pets, or passengers. The transport vessel can be used for extra storage that cannot be achieved with a moped itself.

• The market for this product is small. Mopeds are summer vehicles or year-round if location permits. This means the use of the moped itself varies depending on the customer’s whereabouts. The transport vessel will be a viable option for customers looking to go on short-distance trips with extra equipment or a companion.

• Competing markets are smaller moped trunks that can be fastened to the rear rack on the moped. Other competitors are other manufacturers of similar structure and function.
o Keltic Sidecar, using aluminum framing and metal shell that can be fastened to the side plate on the moped. ($2000)
o Mercari, manufacturer of scooter trunks and attachment plates. ($50-$100)

• Some design concerns for the transport vessel are the weight and strength of the vessel itself. The vessel must be light enough to not expose the scooter engine to extra fatigue, which could cause an engine failure. It also must be light enough to maneuver by human power for storage and assembly. However, the vessel must be strong enough to support the extra weight and carry out its function.
