Design Ideas

Multiple designs ideas were drafted and proposed by the team to address the feedback we received from our customer survey and subsequent design concern table.  These proposals were narrowed down to a side facing (Design 1) and rear facing (Design 2) attachment style solution to the guidelines we established. Following a team decision making process, the final design was structured after Design 1 with modular elements of Design 2 to better accommodate an efficient manufacturing process and allowance for any potential repairs to be made by the end user.

Modifications were made to the chosen design to better accommodate existing fabrication and manufacturing challenges. The body of the main cabin was split into modular sections to allow for ease of assembly and the ability to interchange segments of the body panels in the event they become damaged. A mounting plate was added to the design to stiffen connection points between the 50cc motor scooter and the sidecar. In addition it provides a separate mounting surface with larger, modular surface area for the wheel and axle assembly that can also be changed and modified at will. Finally, corner brackets were added utilizing Onyx carbon reinforced Nylon resin to act as impact absorbers and obfuscate seams between the modular body sections.
